Greenwich Academy
Entrance Vestibule
Greenwich, Connecticut
Completed 2012
This striking all-glass high school building was designed by world-renowned architects, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, approximately 10 years ago. While the building looks great, it has not functioned well. Specifically, the entrance doors were too heavy for young students to open, the hardware scraped on the ground, and cold air poured into the building when doors were opened in the winter.
seventy2architects was hired to design thermal vestibules for 6 entrances; construction is complete at the building's main entrance, and work at the other entrances is underway. Our approach was to design this change to look as though it was part of the original building. If you cannot tell what we added, then we did a great job!
